Winery Metairie is leading in the South of France. Their vineyards, roughly located between Limoux and southern Narbonne, are among the most beautiful in this wine region. Metairie was founded in 1995 as a cooperative. This means that various winegrowers in the South of France work together and release wine under the same label: Metairie. Because several winegrowers are involved in this winery, it claims the finest grapes available. The vineyards are widespread throughout the region, and the grapes are planted in the best places for the particular grape variety. In this way, not only the quality of Metairie Les Barriques is extremely high, but of all the wines of Metairie.
It is for good reason that this Metairie Les Barriques Chardonnay is so popular because for this price class it is really a lot of wine. It is made entirely from Chardonnay grapes that grow in the Languedoc wine region. The old vines, on average 40 years old, yield ripe and full grapes that are perfectly suited for wood aging. In the beautiful vineyard, the Chardonnay grapes receive a lot of attention for hours of sunshine and soil. After the manual harvest, the juice matures for no less than 9 to 11 months in small oak barrels in the cellar of Metairie. An important period for this "Les Barriques Chardonnay" because it becomes full and firm in the taste but also very soft.
In the fragrance aromas of flowers, citrus, vanilla, oak wood and yellow plum. The taste of this Metairie is soft and creamy with a lot of yellow fruit such as apricots, mango, pineapple and some lime. On the back of the tongue we tasted vanilla, wood tones, roasted nuts and yellow cream. But what a class of wine and that for this price and because of this a lot of house wine in many star restaurants. Unfortunately we are not allowed to name names of the star establishments, but it is also the house wine of a 2 star restaurant, that is saying something! This white wine from Metairie is delicious as an evening wine but can also be combined with dishes such as butterfish, fresh salmon, chicken dishes and pasta with a creamy sauce.
