From the heart of Burgundy, France, comes the Vosne Romanée, a red wine that perfectly balances elegance with power. Made primarily from Pinot Noir, this 2021 vintage is a testimony to the mastery and heritage of winemaking in Burgundy.
The vineyards, spread over 1.05 hectares (2,471 acres) and planted between 1921 and 1980, are located in the north of Vosne-Romanée, bordering the Vougeot Grand Cru. The soil is a classic mix of limestone and clay, with the 'Les Hautes Maizières' plot having solid limestone entrochal. The grapes are picked and sorted by hand to preserve their integrity, and undergo a cold pre-fermentation of 4 to 6 days to extract phenolic components. The maceration process takes approximately 15 days, using only natural yeasts and punch-downs to concentrate tannins, perfumes and color. The wine is aged for 16 months in traditional Burgundian barrels, with a mix of new and used oak, followed by a final 3 months in tanks before bottling.
On the nose, this wine perfectly reflects its terroir, with beautifully defined notes of cherries, strawberries, vanilla and a hint of spice such as cinnamon. This complex and broad aromatic profile leads to a palate of great intensity and polished texture. The wine is subtle but has a slight firmness, with layers of smoky and vanilla nuances unfolding, alongside beautiful acidity and powerful red wine characteristics.
This Vosne Romanée is a versatile accompaniment to various dishes. It goes exceptionally well with rich meats such as hare fillet, oven-baked rack of lamb and duck breast with cranberry sauce. The complexity of the wine also makes it suitable for chocolate cakes or grilled red meat.
