Powerful and strong like a lion but also as soft as its fur, this is what Max Lion Grenache stands for. It consists of one hundred percent Grenache grapes and is grown in the vineyards of the Loire Valley.
The Vignobles Vellas winery began four generations ago in the heart of the Languedoc. The main family property, the Mas du Pont estate, the centre of their activities, is a place of culture and traditions. It is located in the towns of Teyran and Crès, near Montpellier, between Pic St Loup and the Mediterranean. Today Nicolas Vella is at the helm, he is passionate about wine and about the Languedoc region. He strives for excellence, authenticity and innovation. This forms a perfect basis for making very high quality wines. Vignobles Vellas has 120 hectares of vineyards, divided over five wine domains. The bottles are characterised by striking labels.
In addition to their own vineyards, the range is further complemented by partnerships they have with winemakers from the Languedoc, the Sud-Ouest, the Rhône Valley and Provence. Thanks to these partnerships, they can offer wines from all areas of southern France. The majority of their vineyards are organic, as respect for nature is paramount.
The vinification of hand-picked berries at the stage of optimum ripeness and hand-sorted is done in the traditional way in steel tankers at a controlled temperature. The Max Lion turns garnet-red in the glass, releasing its aromas immediately. The smell has impressions of black fruit such as cassis, cherries and a slight hint of blackberries. At the back of the nose there are small nuances of herbs and pepper. The taste is very soft, even velvety with a firm start of dark fruit and the right proportion of spices.
