This Grande Reserve Brut is one of the best-known Champagne of Gosset. The champagne house is located in the small town of Aÿ. The cellars are located behind the house in the mountains. It is one of the deepest cellars in the entire Champagne region. This Gosset Grande Reserve Brut also matures in these cellars for at least four years, because tranquility is of paramount importance to Gosset.
The beginning of the story of the Gosset family takes us back to the year 1584. In that year founder and namesake Pierre Gosset was the mayor of the village of Aÿ. With its rich history, Gosset claims to be the oldest champagne house. On the one hand that is also true, only Gosset did not yet make sparkling wine at the time. Ruinart is the oldest champagne house that makes champagne as we know it today. That does not mean that we can count Gosset among the best champagne houses. The soil of the vineyards is very calcareous and therefore very suitable for growing grapes. In order to preserve the natural aromas of the wine as much as possible, the house avoids malolactic fermentation. You can recognize Gosset champagnes by their complex style with finesse and excellent balance
All champagne from this winery is bottled in a stylish bottle. A tribute to the champagne bottles from the 18th century. So is this Grande Réserve Brut. A blend of 43 percent chardonnay, 42 percent pinot noir and 15 percent pinot meunier is used for this champagne. It is a complex champagne with a long finish. What a craftsmanship. Champagne at a high level with aromas of red berries, light wheat, dried fruits and a hint of gingerbread. The taste is truly a sensation. Lots of hints of chocolate, pear, toast and citrus. The Chardonnay provides the fruitiness, while the Pinot Noir in turn is responsible for the structure of the wine. In short; subtle and a classic character!
