Winery Fontodi is located in Panzano, in the heart of the Chianti Classico region and has a long history. Vines were already grown here during Roman times and evidence has been found that vinification was already taking place on this farm, called Via, in the 16th century. The current owner, the Manetti family, also has a long history in the Chianti area, although this was not in viticulture. This family produced terracotta for about 300 years and started producing wine in 1968 after purchasing Fontodi.

With all the vineyards, located in the Conca d'Oro valley, meaning golden cap, Fontodi is one of the most respected producers in Chianti Classico. Organic viticulture, biodynamic wine making, creating beautiful fruits to produce a portfolio of artisanal stylish wines. With their sense of tradition, an abundance of typicity and yet looking ahead, they know how to make characteristic wines from mainly Sangiovese grapes. Wines that should not be missed by any Italy fan!

A high-quality Chianti Classico with a maximum of 1 year of wood aging, a Riserva that can be considered one of the first Sangiovese-Cabernet blends due to the perfect collaboration of Giovanni and Franco, and a Super-Tuscan with the name Flaccianello della Pieve from only Sangiovese that has high scores points with, among others, Robert Parker. Important other wines are the Pinot Nero, originating from Giovanni's education period, when he looked with great inspiration to the Burgundy and the Syrah, which was planted as a youthful experiment. The latter 2 are bottled under the name Via. In short, wines that should not be missed by any Italy fan!

In the last 17 editions of the Gambero Rosso, it has achieved an assessment of 'Tre Bicchieri' no fewer than 13 times. The highest attainable.

The Chianti Classico is made from 100% sangiovese and makes up sixty percent of the company's wine production. This 'basic' wine immediately demonstrates how excellent Fontodi is today. The sophisticated barrel aging in first-class barriques of French oak from Allier is an example for other producers and then the charm of the Sangiovese with a purity so magnificent, plus the balance of the ripe and extremely fresh fruit.

With the softness that characterizes a fine contemporary Chianti Classico. The particularly fine tannins and it goes on and on those precise fruit impressions with crispy fresh and dried blueberries and a cassis note that appeals to everyone. The wine is very stable and without any rough edges. This is a slim to medium red with balanced acidity. Once you've tasted it, it's hard to resist and the good news is: you don't have to!

Colour garnet red
Aroma
Beautiful notes of cherry blossom, violet and hibiscus, followed by fruits such as blackcurrant and blackberry. This gives way to an elegant spiciness, with notes of licorice and pepper. The wine has excellent minerality and fantastically well-integrated light graphite notes.
Flavour The taste opens with freshness and develops into a larger wine with a lot of taste of black fruit, herbs, leather, cocoa, vanilla and so on. The tannins are silky and mature, and the finish is long, juicy and seductive.
Serve with Classically, Sangiovese and Chanti are a perfect match with a Bistecca Fiorentina (T-Bone steak), dried prosciuttos, anything from the grill and, of course, full-bodied Italian pasta with a tomato sauce.
