This cheerful label alone puts a smile on our face. It reflects the French enjoyment. And that is exactly this wine, from the winery Domaine des Frères Laffitte. This winery is located in the Cotes de Gascogne, an area roughly located between the Languedoc and Bordeaux. For years it was a neglected child when it comes to wines. It was especially the famous Armagnac that gave the Cotes de Gascogne the necessary fame. However, the vibrant Cotes de Gascogne wines are no longer available.
Domaine des Frères Laffitte is one of the preeminent wineries in the Cotes de Gascogne. The domain covers no less than 150 hectares around the village of Ayzieu, a small hamlet with less than 150 inhabitants. However, this village has been extremely important for the Armagnac production. Today it is the center of the Cotes de Gascogne wines, in which Domaine des Frères Laffitte is at the forefront.
A leading role in the vineyards is clearly reserved for the Colombard, an aromatic yet full-bodied grape that is responsible for the typical Cotes de Gascogne smell and taste. In addition, this grape thrives very well in the climate in this part of southern France.
Colombard also has a clear leading role in this glass from Domaine des Frères Laffitte. No less than 80% of this white wine consists of this grape. The rest is complemented by the refreshing Sauvignon Blanc. This gives you an extremely balanced white wine, which scores high in all areas. The scent is fairytale-like, with firm fruits such as apricot and wild peach, but also the necessary citrus fruit. The taste is a gem. You will taste unconventional flavors such as kiwi and grapefruit. This makes this white wine Domaine des Frères Laffitte ideal for an aperitif.
