For this white wine we travel to Canale, in the heart of the Roero, amidst the hills of Cornarea. This is where the eponymous Cornarea winery is located, which now has fifteen hectares of vineyards. It is still a family winery and is today run by Piero and Francesca. It was they who planted the Arneis grape again, because it was becoming extinct in the whole Roero area.
Cornarea's famous Arneis vineyard in Roero was planted between 1975 and 1977. This now ageing vineyard has truly magnificent yields. The soil in which the vines are planted is full of clay, magnesium and pebbles, allowing the plants to gain sufficient strength. The climate for the Arneis in Roero is perfect, also because of the high altitude. The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 280 metres and enjoys many hours of sun but also coolness. This mix of temperatures is important for the harvest and the fresh acidity of the grapes is preserved.
When the Arneis grapes are ripe, they are harvested by hand in the early morning. Only the best bunches are picked and used to make this beautiful white wine from Cornarea. But before that, the wine matures for several months on the lees in Cornarea's cellars. It builds strength and finesse, making it shine in the glass. The nose smells of gentle aromas of white blossom, pears, pineapple and passion fruit. These aromas are also clearly present in the taste. The onset of this Cornarea Roero Arneis is full of creaminess and harmony. The aftertaste is rich and extremely refreshing. A unique wine!
