Nestled in the heart of Argentina, the Catena Zapata winery stands as a pillar of innovation and tradition in the wine world. This dynasty, founded by the Catena family, has left an indelible mark on the Argentine wine industry for generations. Their unique approach to viticulture is steeped in respect for the old and enthusiasm for the new. And their story? An epic story spanning ten centuries, full of life, death and rebirth.
Creating the Malbec Argentino 2017 is a ritual in itself. 20% of the bunches and 80% of the whole berries are carefully loaded by hand into new French oak barrels of 225-500 liters for full barrel fermentation for 30 days. This method ensures seamless integration of the oak. The fermentation temperature remains low, ensuring intense aromas, and the hood management is done by hand for a gentle flavor and tannin extraction, thanks to the wild yeasts. After fermentation, the wine rests for 18 months in French oak barrels, which gives it depth and complexity.
The 2017 Malbec Argentino has a deep, vibrant color, reflecting the intensity of its origins. At the first sniff comes a rich bouquet of ripe fruit, followed by subtle notes of violets and spices. The palate is as robust as it is refined, with velvety tannins that harmonize with flavors of dark cherries and plums, with a hint of chocolate and vanilla. And the best? This wine pairs wonderfully with a juicy steak or a rich lamb dish, making it a perfect choice for those special dinner parties.
