A king from the special island of Sicily. This island is the largest island in the Mediterranean and it is also the most important in terms of viticulture. The rugged island lends itself extremely well to viticulture. Until the 80s and 90s, this was mainly the area of mass wines. For 20 years, Sicily has belonged to the absolute top and can compete well with the Italian wines from the mainland. This Ammasso Rosso Sicilia is living proof. A complex wine which exactly translates the character of Sicily into a good red wine.
The Nero d'avola is the grape that dominates all vineyards in Sicily. A quirky grape that thrives on the terroir of this huge island. In addition to the Nero d'Avola, this Ammasso Rosso Sicilia also consists of the native Nerello Mascalese and the international famous Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. After the harvest, which takes place manually, the full trusses are stored in a so-called fruit room. Here the grapes develop a special aroma before they are pressed. After pressing, Ammasso Rosso Sicilia undergoes a wood aging of 8 to 10 months in roasted oak barrels. This process gives Ammasso Rosso Sicilia its quirky yet delicate palate.
The impressive process of producing this successful Sicilian wine is unique and admirable. It gets intense aromas that your nose just can't get enough of. Intense notes of fruit simply alternate with something of nuts and marzipan. You smell almonds, grapes, candied dark fruit and prunes. When you take a sip of Ammasso Rosso Sicilia, you gradually fall in love with this red wine. You can taste candied fruit in combination with roasted nuts. A well-balanced red wine that combines excellently with hearty meat dishes and mature cheeses.
