A red wine from one of the most beautiful wine houses in the Bierzo region, in our opinion. This red Cima Bella is made by no one less than Bodega del Abad, which is no stranger to this region. Under the leadership of winemaker Ramiro Carbajo, they now make a top-class wine from the Mencia grape. This grape also grows on the old vines of this winery, which have been in the ground for about 35 years. The vineyards and location of the winery are near the old Carracedo Monastery founded by Bermudo II "El Gotoso" which dates back to 990. The monastery is part of the history of the area and has therefore recently been completely restored. Old traditions live again, but with a modern twist, which is also how Cima Bella wanted their wines to shine. Well, they more than succeeded, as they are loved all over the world.
What a treat this red wine from Cima Bella from the Bierzo wine region is. For this red wine, the Mencia grape is used. These grapevines stand at an altitude of 650 metres and get lots of sunshine, but also coolness from the night and wind from the ocean. Because of this, the circumstances are ideal to make a ripe, full-bodied wine. There is not even any wood maturation needed to make this wine shine. The winemaker finds the juice of such good quality that he does not use wooden barrels. Something that is already so beautiful by nature should not be imposed but should be enjoyed straight away, he said.
A unique wine with a lot of depth. Flooded with floral and fruity aromas in the scent which is very attractive. On the nose, it is very soft with soft and refreshing tones, nice fruit content of black fruits, plums and cherries. The taste is fresh, lively, with an excellent balance and very soft tannins that give this Cima Bella Mencia Bierzo a great complexity.
