The plot for this Vin de Pays is located in Bussiere. This wine is a pleasant surprise that provides an explosion of power, fruit and concentration! Excellent balance. The vines are more than forty years old. Some parcels have vines that are more than eighty years old. All wines are made classically and stand out for their combination of power and finesse.
Domaine de la Janasse is one of the most famous wineries of the Southern Rhone. The red wines are often considered by the trade press to be the best of the Southern Rhone, and that is really no coincidence: old, sometimes over 100 year old vines, organic vineyard management, small yields, spontaneous fermentation in the cellar, maturing exclusively in large old wooden barrels and bottling after moon phase (!) without filtration - what sounds like a blueprint for great red wines, delivers spectacular results in the bottles of this exceptional winemaker.
The vines for this blend of Merlot, Syrah, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon grow near the town of Bussière on gravelly alluvial land. The fact that Merlot plays the leading role (55%) is especially noticeable in the rich, fruity and velvety structure, which is supported by the typical Garrique tones of southern France.
